CROCHET BOWLS

2016

deconstruction, fabrication + aging study

Influenced by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi, this study focused on aging objects and material, rustic aesthetics and beauty in the irregular and imperfect. Crochet bowls were woven using yarn made from discarded pant fabric. Once the bowls were completed, the material was taken through several different natural aging methods. This included burying in dirt, growing mycelium inside, and planting a succulent within so every time the plant was watered the soil would affect the fabric material. These methods created a beautiful weathered and worn affect.
