Chair 2 in Rosso

Inspired by Enzo Mari’s Sedia 1 Chair, Chair 2 in Rosso uses a simple design to explore natural dyes as a wood colourant. A multi-day process of soaking in tannin, mordant and finally dye for a rich colour that highlights the wood grain.
Using the same values from Mari Autoprogettazione, which questioned the quantity vs. quality of mass manufacturing, this chair was constructed at home using standardized lumber dimensions and simple hand tools. The chair was revised by adding simple through-wedge-tenon joints and refining the back leg for a more streamlined profile, making an iconic design more functional with longevity while refining the dimensions for a slim profile.
